Southern right whales are most commonly encountered whales during the winter months from July to October. The Knysna Heads are the best-known viewpoint, offering an unfrogettable view of the rugged coastline and tranquil lagoon. Whales have even been known to enter the lagoon for some peace and quiet, much to the delight of visitors and and residents.

Birds of Eden
Birds of Eden is the largest free-flight aviary in the world. The sanctuary encompasses 2.3ha of partly forested land, covered by a 3.2ha mesh and criss-crossed by a 1.2km walkway. Visitors are welcome to explore at their own pace, with the use of Birds of Eden's specialised guidebook. The sanctuary is home to over 3,000 birds of around 200 species
